INJUSTICE is Regularly Scheduled Programming…

I am not color blind.

In fact, I noticed the difference between black and white skin early on as a student in Kindergarten. My teacher, Ms. Rodriguez, was phenomenal.

And kind.

With long flowing dark hair.

And white skin.

But this isn’t about that.

In fact, this is about those with my same pigment that fall victim to murders committed by those who share the same melanin in their skin.

Black on black crime.

Unsurprisingly, people have chosen to nitpick, poke, and prod at the unity now found within the black community in regards to the injustice of the Trayvon Martin case. They assume that others do not take US seriously because WE KILL EACH OTHER more than they kill us.

They are too blinded by the harrowing statistics that depict stories of hatred, disrespect, and disunity in our own ‘hoods to see the injustice towards US that AmeriKKKa is known for…

When I was 12 years old, I lost a friend to black on black crime. Demetric Tywan Malloy was 16 years old when he was murdered by a gentleman who could have been some distant cousin. His brother. His friend.

Black on black crime is REAL. It is devastating. It is a horrible reality that hits extremely close to home…

The hit show, First 48, is filmed in MY city…

MY neighborhood…

literally a block away from my high school.

I get it.

BUT, although that is worth every march, every rally, every heart wrenching cry to STOP THE VIOLENCE… this is NOT the Trayvon Martin case. It is not even similar… It cannot be compared.

The difference between BLACK ON BLACK CRIME and CRIMES COMMITTED AGAINST BLACKS is the latter always gets away. There is no justice when WE are murdered by others. There aren’t any GUILTY verdicts passed down by jurors of our “peers”. There are only ACQUITTALS and verdicts of NOT GUILTY. There are TOSSED OUT INDICTMENTS by judges. There are COVER UPS by law enforcement. There is NO JUSTICE.

And THAT is the problem.

When a black man murders a black man, he is arrested. Even if he flees the scene… even if it takes years to catch him… he is eventually caught, charged, and CONVICTED.

When officers murder unarmed black men, they are not arrested. They are not charged. They do not have to flee because no one is chasing them. They get away with murder.

When Zimmerman murdered Trayvon Martin, he was not arrested. He was found NOT GUILTY just as others with the same skin as his who have murdered countless other “Trayvon Martin”s in cold blood.

There is NO JUSTICE.

Should we stop killing each other? Yes. Of course. Should we teach our boys to refrain from violence? Yes. Should we teach them to desire more out of life? Yes. Should we make them pull up their sagging jeans? Yes. Should we teach them to value human life? Yes.

The reality of black on black crime does not minimize the reality of INJUSTICE we face. Do NOT minimize it! Do NOT make excuses for the behaviors of those who DGAF about our dark skins.

They do not kill us because we kill each other.

Because we live in a country that ALLOWS them to get away with it.

It doesn’t matter that our President is black. That was one small step forward and this Trayvon Martin case and its verdict has taken us 400 years back… shackles not included.

They will continue to do this until WE UNITE and PUT ACTIONS BEHIND OUR WORDS. We cannot simply throw a temper tantrum for a few days and then go back to regularly scheduled programming.

We must realize…

What are YOU going to do about it!?
