I recently read a blog post written by a gay male who also practices the Christian faith. I was stumped by the post in its entirety and the comments from readers that followed. I shared the views of some commentators but there were some who were completely disgusting in their remarks.
This post has inspired me to write the following blog post. I hope you enjoy— and I hope you join in on the discussion.
POSITIVE COMMENTS ONLY.
During the course of my 26 years on earth, my stance on homosexuality has not wavered. Being a Christian, I do not believe God condones same sex relationships.
The main issue I have with the gay community is the belief (several generalized statements I have personally read and heard) that those who oppose homosexuality are homophobic. Clearly, this does not apply to ALL gays… just as gold teeth and baggy pants do not apply to all blacks. BUT there seems to be a lot of propaganda and foolishness correlating opposition to homosexuality with being homophobic.
I do not have any personal issue against the LGBT community. I do not FEAR them by any definition of the word. I also do NOT believe any one sin is greater than the other but, at the same time, I do acknowledge homosexuality is a sin.
Just like fornication…
Just like using profanity…
Just like blasphemy…
Just like adultery…
Just like murder…
Just like lying.
Can you be Christian and practice homosexuality? Yes— the same way Christians are liars, adulterers, thieves, murderers, and every other type of SINNER possible.
The arguments I have heard in support of homosexuality all mention how “Christians pick and choose” the parts of the Bible to adhere to. No, we don’t sacrifice animals for the atonement of our sins anymore— because we acknowledge the perfect sacrifice not demonstrated by animals or observing rituals, but in the perfect life and death of one who was wholly man and wholly God who died for the sin of evil men out of love, the person of Jesus Christ. Understanding that Jesus has come, the rituals that foreshadowed Him are now pointless and unnecessary because we have our salvation– not in our works and attempts at righteousness, but by our faith in Christ, the only perfect sacrifice. So I guess that is an explanation for many of the things Christians “pick and choose” not to do anymore.
No one can change the way anyone lives or force their views on them. But the standpoint of the church on homosexuality is not without a very legitimate and biblical reason. The common argument in support of homosexuality is that those who oppose it ONLY use the Old Testament to support their opposition. However, in 1 Corinthians 6: 9 (NEW TESTAMENT) states “Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.”
I love everybody— with the exception of rapist, child abusers, murderers ((you know, the extremes)) — but the beautiful thing about GOD is that He loves EVERYBODY without exception.
My daughter is in dance and we have met and fell in love with some AMAZING members of the LGBT community. Contrary to what demonic seeds they may be compared to or described as by the ignorant and hypocritical, they are truly amazing individuals with hearts of gold. Sexual preference does not make you a bad person. I know more heterosexuals than anything and I know some preeeetty screwed up individuals.
Everyone has their own vice…
I like margaritas.
I like bad words.
I had this thing for pornography and strippers… ((thank God thats over *whew*))
I have no issue acknowledging my faults…and those things I have been guilty of in the past, because I am a constant work in progress. I am growing closer to God… but I know I am NOT perfect.
I think the main issue with Christians— is our ability to quickly cast judgment on those whose sins are the not the same as ours. And we are ALL sinners. It is NOT in the best interest of YOUR OWN SALVATION to focus on condemning or judging ANY other individual. The same Bible I read that speaks against homosexuality is the same Bible that states to LOVE THY NEIGHBOR. God does not tell us WHEN to love— but instead instructs us to LOVE ALL PEOPLE.
As I mentioned in a previous post WITH THIS RING, I THEE WED! — “We are a judgemental bunch… and that is how we drive people AWAY from Christ. Despite what laws are made and regardless of the choices people make sexually or otherwise… it is NOT our position to judge them. We are supposed to be like Christ. We can preach the Gospel… spread the Word… and do all the things that promote and build up the Kingdom of God WITHOUT tearing down the next person. We cannot, with clear concious, deny human beings ANY rights simply because we feel that right should be limited to those of us with the same beliefs.”
God is love.
And if you LOVE GOD, you cannot find ways to justify not loving HIS people.
These labels are NOT important. They do NOT define us.
LOVE is LOVE is LOVE is LOVE ♥
